Pohang Museum International Design Competition

We aim to create a new cultural platform that preserves and promotes the comprehensive history of Pohang, bridging its deep roots into the future by systematically collecting, researching, and exhibiting its cultural heritage. Beyond fragmented memories, we design a comprehensive museum that fully embodies the unique identity of the city.

Purpose of Project

1. Currently, Pohang lacks a museum to serve as a central hub for the systematic collection, research, and exhibition of the regions history, culture, and cultural heritage.
2. This issue has resulted in the relocation of over 32,000 vast artifacts to other regions. Consequently, Pohang City aims to establish a museum that will reclaim, exhibit, and utilize these precious cultural assets born from our region, while fully preservingthe areas identity and history to pass down to future generations.
3. The ultimate goal is to establish a robust cultural and tourism value chain in connection with renowned regional landmarks, including the Homi Peninsula National Marine Eco—Park and the Guryongpo Japanese House Street. By fostering a self—sustaining cycle of continuous visitor influx, Pohang intends to elevate its status as a premier historical and cultural tourism destination in the Pan-East Sea region.
