Miasto: Kopenhaga

Copenhagen is known for its cool design, innovative festivals and unique gastronomy. But with Copenhagen in the centre, Danish architecture is also forging ahead internationally. This September Copenhagen architecture will be in the international spotlight as the city hosts RISING Architecture Week.

From September 15th-18th 2015, and for the first time, Copenhagen hosts the international RISING Architecture Week. For four days Copenhagen turns into a sizzling melting pot of 50+ events, guided tours, site visits and debates throughout the city. September 16th – 17th more than 500 international professionals and other visionaries within the building industry meet and participate in a two-day conference to debate, exchange ideas and challenge the perception of architecture.

“RISING gathers a very big, international audience of architects, developers and city planners, which gives professionals a unique opportunity to develop and exchange ideas across borders. I’m very much looking forward to participate in RISING this September.” Says Sergey Kuznetsov, City Chief Architect of Moscow and keynote speaker at RISING.

The first engaging international keynotes from across the world joins RISING to participate and explore issues of the theme: Growing cities. Jason Roberts (USA) is a US-based artist and urban interventionist. Roberts is founder of the Better Block Project (2010) a guerilla art installation transforming a blighted commercial block in the inner city neighborhood of Oak Cliff with the installation of pop-up businesses, painted bike lanes and street trees. Dan Stubbergaard (DK) is co-founder and Creative Director of COBE Architects (2005). With his unique architectural talent, Dan is behind several iconic, award-winning design projects. Ngaire Blankenberg (CDN) is co-author of “Cities, Museums and Soft Power” (2015) in which she urges museums to use their soft powers to play a more vital role in creating equitable, inclusive and empowering cities. Kjetil Thorsen (N) is co-founder of the multidisciplinary architectural practice Snøhetta. Kjetil has received numerous prizes including: “Mies van de Rohe Prize” – for the Opera and Ballet in Oslo (2009).

RISING is about exploring the city, gaining knowledge and challenging perceptions of architectural norms. RISING is not an academic practice. It is a meeting place. Not only for architects and other visionaries within the building industry, but for everybody who believes in creating and shaping buildings, spaces and lifestyles.

“I'm honored to take part in RISING 2015, and to share and learn with other civic innovators who are challenging the way we think of supporting the growth and vitality of cities and their public life. It's an honor to have the opportunity to come together in Copenhagen, a city that has inspired many of our block interventions, and to sit at the table among so many others who are passionate about exploring new avenues for enhancing the built environment.” Says Jason Roberts.

RISING Architecture Week is arranged in cooperation with The Danish Association of Architectural Firms.
